Britain’s 2nd largest National Park, covering 827 Square miles (2,142 sq. km.). Snowdonia’s name arose from English sailors on journey to Ireland in Medieval times. The Welsh name is Eryir, meaning “Abode of Eagles”.In this region, traditional Welsh language is often spoken. Snowdonia National Park is divided largley into three valleys which run NE to SW. The main tourism area is Mt. Snowdon, reaching a height of 3,560 feet.For those who’d rather not climb that peak, take a ride by the Rack-and-Pinion Railway starting from Llanberis to Mt. Snowdon’s breath-taking summit. This rugged and unspoiled area offers world-class scenic beauty.
